Grass fertilizers
Grass fertilizers are inorganic or organic materials that are used in the soil or plant in order to improve its health, provide necessary nutrients and make it stronger. Fertilizers, when applied in your lawn, will make it look greener and healthy. In other words, fertilizer is a type of plant food. It can be natural or put deliberately put into the soil by people. Fertilizer contains different types of substances that are very crucial for plants/grass to grow.
Most fertilizers contain nitrogen and phosphorus, though some contain other useful elements like potassium. Fertilizers can be organic, for example, manure which contains carbon and inorganic fertilizer contains ammonium phosphate.
How it works?
The fertilizer is a wide subject, plus a bit complex in its nature and substances, however, there are three substances that always remains – N (Nitrogen), P (Phosphorus), K (Potassium) These are 3 substances that are very important for grass or plant growth.
1. Nitrogen – Nitrogen is highly responsible for keeping the plants or grass healthy and green. This is the biggest reason that fertilizers that are specially made for grasses for lawn/garden contains a very high amount of nitrogen.
2. Phosphorus – Phosphorus helps the roots to grow in a healthy manner and also promotes flowering and fruiting, so you often see fertilizer bulbs and bloom are high in phosphorus. Plants usually take phosphorus from decaying organic matter. It can be applied in your garden as rock phosphate, bone meal, and various liquid organic fertilizers.
3. Potassium – It is also known as potash and is an element that is responsible for the formation of chlorophyll and other compounds in the plant. It can be applied organically as SUL-PO-MAG, green sand, and liquid fertilizers.
How is grass fertilizer useful?
When you choose a fertilizer it is important to keep in your mind a fact that says – fewer fertilizers are more. Organic fertilizers release lower amounts of nutrients over time, while chemical fertilizers release an excess amount of nutrients then wash away out of the soil. If you want your plant or grass to get the most out of any fertilizer you can do it by checking your soil pH level.
