Ixia is a plant growing up to 50 cm with a shoot covered with star-shaped flowers. Thanks to its appearance, it is perfect as a terrace or balcony decoration, planted in a container, as a flower for a bed. The eye will enjoy long standing in a vase as a cut flower.
It grows best in sunny positions in the ground on slightly permeable soil or in pots with a mixture of sand and peat.
It is planted in the fall (September to November) or spring (March or April). It should be ensured that the substrate is never wet. Before flowering, Iksje is recommended to stimulate flower development. After flowering, watering should be reduced.
Due to low frost resistance, the bulbs planted in autumn should be covered with mulch material, e.g. straw or leaves.
For storage the bulbs should be dug out in the fall, when the leaves are not yet completely dry, and kept for the winter in a dry and airy room at a temperature of 10-15 ° C.
