Substrate preparation
A meadow of summer flowers develops best if the area dedicated to it is free of weeds and roots, and the soil is loosened and loosened. It is best to loosen the soil with a rotary tiller, plow or cutter to a depth of about 15-30 cm. If time allows us to clean the soil very thoroughly, we can first spray the weeds and only loosen the soil after a few weeks (it is important that the spraying starts working). weeds start to grow on the prepared soil, we can stop them by loosening the soil at a depth of 3 cm. It is not necessary to add any fertilizer before sowing.
Seeding
Sowing seeds should be done from mid-April to the end of June. With early sowing, summer flowers may not germinate due to the low temperature of the soil, and then they will be drowned out by early sprouting grasses and weeds. It is best to wait for the emergence of grasses and weeds on the prepared soil, recultivate the soil at a depth of approx. 3 cm and then sow flowers. Please observe the sowing rate so that the earlier germinating varieties do not choke those that germinate later. The seeds cannot be placed too deep, they should only be lightly covered with soil. In order to build flowers quickly, make sure that the soil is moist during the emergence period. This is especially important during periods of drought and hot weather. Fertilizers should only be used when all the seeds have germinated.
Care
The maintenance costs after the meadow is established are low. If the substrate is not well prepared and after sowing we have a lot of weeds, cut them to a height of 15-20 cm, then the flowers will have a chance to develop. After long periods of drought, the flowers disappear and often re-bloom after heavy rainfall. After flowering, the meadow can often be mowed after the first frost. Proper mowing is very important with perennial mixtures.
