Description

Parasol mushroom (Marcrolepiota procera) belonging to the mushroom family grows throughout the country. It is valued mainly for a specific taste and a slightly nutty aroma. It has various names, such as: tall belly, crested owl or flesh-colored twig.

Juvenile specimens of this mushroom have a spherical and egg-shaped cap, which becomes convex over time, then flat with a hump at the top, resembling an umbrella shape. They are also characterized by a long shaft with a movable ring. Gills of parasol mushrooms are white to yellowish, and in older mushrooms they change to rusty-brown shades. The stem can reach a height of 20 to 40 cm and is hollow inside, covered with brown scales, like the cap.

These mushrooms occur singly and in groups, they can be found in forests, meadows and clearings. Parasol mushrooms are rich in valuable nutrients, such as vitamins A, D, B1, B2, PP as well as iron, potassium and phosphorus. Cultivation of parasol mushrooms can be started in March until late autumn.

Czubajka Kania is not a fully "domesticated" mushroom. However, it is worth trying to cultivate it, although 100% success cannot be guaranteed, because it depends on providing it with conditions similar to the natural environment in which it occurs. When choosing a place to grow, look forshadedareasrich in humus, calcium and silicates.

How to grow Parasol mushroom in the garden?

There are two ways to do this:

Way #1

  1. Dig a hole approximately 60×40 cm and 20 cm deep.
  2. Prepare the substrate in layers using the following ingredients:
    • The first layer is compost 5-8 cm thick. You can use compost from your own garden or from a garden store.
    • Scatter oak leaves on top of the compost.
    • Cover the whole thing with wheat straw.
  3. After laying each layer, pour hot water over them to eliminate as much impurities as possible that can infect the mycelium.
  4. Make several holes all over the surface and pour in the mycelium.
  5. Cover the whole thing with foil.
  6. Punch holes in the foil to allow water to get inside.
  7. Water the crop through the holes in the foil on dry days.

Handle #2

Once you have found a suitable place to grow, place the mycelium directly into the ground under the roots of the grasses. At the place of cultivation, pour 5 ml of mycelium (about 1 teaspoon) in several places.

Mycelium overgrowth usually takes about 5 weeks.
