Snowball white onion bulbs 250 g
Description
Spring onion, also known as "green onion", is a mild and juicy onion with an intense flavor. Perfect for consumption in any form - raw, fried or cooked. It is also successfully grown for chives. Not suitable for long-term storage.
Snowball is characterized by round, hard, rather large, snow-white heads. It is a mid-early variety. Eaten raw, it lowers blood sugar levels.
How to plant bulbs?
Bulbs can be placed in a pot, container or in soil. This variety has no special requirements, but prefers sunny positions with fertile, permeable soil. Planting is carried out in the spring, at the turn of March and April. The bulb should be placed in the ground at a depth of approx. 4 cm - or so that its tip protrudes from the ground by approx. 0.5 cm, at intervals of approx. 7-10 cm one from the other. It is worth keeping about 25 cm between the rows. It is important to water the bulbs during periods of drought due to their shallow root system. Onions are ready to be harvested when the chives break in half of them.
Why is it worth planting small onion bulbs?
First of all it is definitely easier than sowing onions from seeds. Spring onions are small bulbs that are ready to be placed in the ground and do not require special care.
- Sowing bulbs from seed requires regular weeding to keep the seedlings from drowning out, and growth is very slow.
- Cultivation from seeds is more vulnerable to diseases, possible risk of crop loss or increased costs due to the need to use plant protection products.
- Planted spring onions produce chives throughout the season.
- The production of seedlings takes about 6 weeks, which is how long the process of obtaining bulbs takes, assuming a one-year crop. In the case of two-stage cultivation, it lasts as long as 2 years - in the first year, sowing seeds for spring onions, and in the next year, planting out the resulting spring onions to collect the proper yield.
Cultivation from small onion bulbs allows you to bypass the most difficult stage in growing onions, i.e. the time after emergence.
