Darwin Tulip 'Golden Apeldorn'is one of the most impressive varieties of tulips. Fully developed plants reach a height of 70 cm, which classifies them as the tallest of tulips. It produces an egg-shaped, sunny yellow flower, and looks perfect when planted in a rock garden, in flower beds and as a cut flower. When planted in larger groups, it will create a beautiful floral carpet.
It grows bestin sunny locations, but also around deciduous trees and shrubs, as tulips usually bloom before they fully develop their leaves. The preferred substrate for tulips is light, fertile and well-drained soil.
The bulbs are best plantedin the fall so that they have time to sprout and water profusely. It is recommended to fertilize until flowering, multi-component fertilizers will work well in this. Watering is also very important - the soil should not be too dry until the tulip leaves begin to dry out.
For storage bulbs should be dug up after the leaves have dried (usually (June-July), dried, cleaned and kept in baskets in a dry and ventilated place. Tulips can remain in the garden without digging up for several years.
